The study is evaluating if the investigational medication can improve anemia and reduce the number of pain crises per year.<br \/>\n<strong>Eligibility Criteria:<\/strong><br \/>\nEligible participants must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be 12 to 65 years of age<\/li>\n<li>Have a confirmed diagnosis of SCD<\/li>\n<li>Have had at least 2 pain episodes (vaso-occlusive crises) within the past 12 months<\/li>\n<li>Not have had more than 10 vaso-occlusive crises within the past 12 months<\/li>\n<li>Be willing and able to follow all study requirements and study visit schedules<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are additional eligibility requirements, which the study doctor will explain to you.
